Chris marched with the JSU Marching Southerners, Teal Sound Drum & Bugle Corps and Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps on contra bass. He is a former instructor for the JSU Marching Southerners and former member of the Music City Drum and Bugle Corps visual staff. Currently, he is a music and visual instructor for the York High School Marching Band in Yorktown, VA. This is his first second with Southwind.
Greg is a resident of Mobile, AL where he is a student at the University of South Alabama pursuing a degree in Music Education. He is a former member of Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps in 2012 and Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps in 2016. This is Greg's first season on the visual staff of Southwind.
Brooke O'Brien is a band director in Mississippi. After earning her degree in Music Education from Mississippi State University, she began teaching music students at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She has spent the last two summer teaching visual performance at Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, and was a marching member of Forte (2011) and Spirit of Atlanta (12-13), where she marched trumpet.
Tyler is a Native to Pensacola Florida and attends Pensacola State College. He had marched with Atlanta Quest, Oregon Crusaders, and Music City Mystique. He is currently the visual instructor for the Gulf Breeze SoundWave and the Visual Designer for the Gulf Breeze Indoor Program.
Jesse Albert, born and raised in Thibodaux, Louisiana, is a second year Visual Tech for Southwind and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Instrumental Music Education K-12 at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. As a student, Jesse currently serves as the trumpet section leader for the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band, a member of the UL Wind Ensemble, UL Jazz Ensemble, UL Symphony Orchestra, and serves as a School of Music Band Staff member. While pursuing his degree, he has served as a visual and music tech and consultant for multiple high schools across South Louisiana for the past three years. Jesse has had the pleasure of spending three years marching World Class Drum Corps with the 2014 and 2015 Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps and the 2016 Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. Jesse will also be spending the 2018 WGI Winds season as a High Brass Tech for Magnolia Independent Winds.
Cullen McBride is the current director at Caledonia Middle and High School in Caledonia, MS. He marched with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps (2011-12) and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps (2013-15) on Mellophone. Cullen has worked with variety of marching ensembles spanning from Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas in capacities such as visual consultant, visual technician, and musical technician. Aside from teaching at Caledonia, Cullen also works part time with Elite Independent Percussion as a visual tech. This will be his second summer with Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps.
D.J. Fitzgerald is a resident of Olive Branch MS where he currently serves as the Assistant Director of Bands at Olive Branch High School. At Olive Branch, DJ is responsible for the visual design and training of the marching band and indoor percussion programs, as well as brass instruction at all levels, and conducting the Symphonic Band. Under his instruction, the Olive Branch band has received consistent superior ratings in both marching band and concert band; as well as being a perennial state finalist at Mississippi state marching band championships, including 2nd place finishes with high visual awards in both 2015 and 2017. D.J. holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Mississippi. This will be D.J.’s 3rd season with Southwind.
Josh is currently pursuing a degree in Music Business and Marketing at The University of South Alabama. He also currently teaches at Daphne High School as a low brass and visual technician. Josh has also worked with a few other schools around the Mobile and Baldwin county area, including Spanish Fort High School and Baker High School. His background in the marching arts includes Spirit of Atlanta (2013-2015) Atlanta Quest (2015) Carolina Crown (2016) and most recently with The Blue Devils (2017)
Growing up in Nashville, TN, Nate Hughes currently resides in Clarksville, TN where he is a member of the music education program at Austin Peay State University, with trumpet as his primary instrument. His performance experience in the pageantry arts include being a member of the 2014 Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps, and cast member of Rhythm X Winds in 2016. As a teacher, Nate has been on the visual staff of multiple high schools in middle Tennessee. As the visual caption head at Goodpasture Christian School where he has taught since 2011, the Marching Cougars have gone on to be BOA regional champions and the 2016 Division 1 State Champion. Nate has also taught with Fred J Miller Inc. during their summer clinic programs across the US. Nate is also a former member of the visual staff for Music City Drum and Bugle Corps. He is excited to begin his second season teaching at Southwind.
Phillip graduated graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Florida in 2012 with a Bachelors's in Jazz Studies. He has taught wih FMBC State Finalists Allan D. Nease High School, Pace High School, and Choctawhatchee High School, as well as Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps this past season. He also served as the Visual Caption Head/Drill Designer for Ancient City Ensemble, leading them to WGI World Finals appearances in each of their first 2 seasons. He is currently the drill designer for Choctawhatchee High School indoor percussion and is a consultant for many high school and independent percussion ensembles across the country. Phillip’s drum corps experience began in 2008-2009 with Carolina Crown and the Blue Devils in 2010.
Nathan is the Band Director at Saint Stanisaus College in Bay Saint Louis, MS. Nathan graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He has been a visual and design consultant for schools on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Nathan is currently in his 9th consecutive year of Drum Corps International participation. He marched Teal Sound (11) and Spirit of Atlanta (12-14). This will be Nathan’s third year working with Southwind.
