Tyler Lieu

Tyler is a second year member of the Southwind mellophone section. A rising senior at D'Iberville High School in Biloxi, Miss., Tyler plans to become a military musician with a goal of earning a degree in music education.

Zicky Hart

Zicky is a second year member of the Southwind mellophone section. A graduate of Alma Bryant High School in Dauphin Island, Ala., Zicky plans to become a music educator on the collegiate level while also pursuing opportunities as a professional performer and clinician.

Blake Nelson

Blake is a second year member of the Southwind cymbal line. A graduate of Verbena High School in Verbena, Ala., Blake plans to pursue a doctorate in pharmacy science at Samford University.

Dawson Burnes

Dawson is a member of the Southwind Baritone/Euphonium section. A rising junior at Model High School in Rome, Ga., Dawson plans to pursue a degree in music education.

Jacob DelaRosa

Jacob is a member of the Southwind trumpet section. He is a rising junior at Murphy High School in Mobile, Ala. In the future, Jacob would like to attend college and major in either music performance or education.

Abby Marek

Abby is a member of the Southwind color guard. Abby has studied dance for many years and began spinning with her high school band her sophomore year  A graduate of Hancock County High School, in Bay St. Louis, Miss., Abby wants to attend medical school to become a trauma surgeon.

Ian Seales

Ian is a second year member of the Southwind trumpet section. A music performer since age 5, Ian is a graduate of Rehobeth High School in Dothan, Ala, He plans to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Alabama.

2017 Southwind Member Scholarship recipients are:

The purpose of the Southwind Member Scholarship is to allow members in good standing with Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps to ease the financial burden of tuition costs through a demonstration of their leadership, work ethic and desire to be an upstanding member of the Southwind family.


Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a contracted member in good standing with the corps
  • Be dedicated in regards to participation and attendance
  • Show a willingness to assist with promotion and/or fundraising activities benefiting the corps as a whole.

In addition, candidates must submit a personal statement, two letters of recommendation, and an indication of the level of financial assistance requested.


This year, Southwind is pleased to have awarded a total of $3,250 in tuition assistance for our members.
