After a strong finish in 2019, Southwind is looking even better for the 2020 season. The corps is proud to announce a strong visual team, headed by Caption Head DJ Fitzgerald.
According to Lawrence LeClaire, Southwind Corps Director, “Visually speaking, DJ’s leadership means we’ll reach new heights on the field. With DJ and his team, we’re already building on last year with a show that’s going to have real impact.”
DJ Fitzgerald is a resident of Hernando, Mississippi and is the Assistant Director of Bands at Olive Branch High School. At Olive Branch DJ teaches the visual program for the marching band, as well as directing the pep band, Symphonic Band, 7th grade band, and the Conquistador Jazz Ensemble. Under his direction, the marching band has medaled 2 of the last 5 years at MHSAA State Championships among other numerous “Grand Champion” and “Best in Class” awards. His concert ensembles receive superior ratings at local and state festivals. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from The University of Mississippi where he was named “Outstanding Student in Music Education”. DJ has been on staff at Southwind the last 4 years and is excited to take on this new role in helping to continue and improve upon the excellence that Southwind has experienced since its resurgence.
In addition to Fitzgerald, Southwind will enjoy a full complement of consultants and technicians, including:
- Jesse Albert
- Josh Davis
- Donovan Hillman
- Kayla McGuff
- Sara Rogers
- Emily Schoff
- Chris Swartz
- Greg Wheat
LeClaire added, “One of the cornerstones of Southwind’s renaissance has been our commitment to two things: First, innovation in show design and, second, creating a strong staff that knows how to collaborate with one another. Last year, we really saw the reward of this approach. And this year, by all indications, is shaping up to be our strongest yet.”
